{{featured list}}AB de Villiers is a South African international cricketer.[1] He is widely regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world.[2] A right-handed batsman, has scored centuries on 22 occasions in Test and 25 occasions in ODI. He reached the top of the ICC Test batting rankings in March 2012.[3]

De Villiers made his Test debut in December 2004 against England, scoring 28 and 15.[4] He made his first Test century the following month, scoring 109 in the drawn fifth Test in the same series.[5] De Villiers' first double century came in April 2008 against India when he scored 217 not out in a man-of-the-match performance in Ahmedabad.[6] {{As of|2017|October}}, he has scored 21 Test centuries and holds the record for the second-highest individual score by a South African batsman, with 278 not out against Pakistan,[5] after Hashim Amla's 311 not out against England in 2012.[6] {{As of|2017|October}}, de Villiers has the fourth-highest number of centuries in Tests for South Africa.[7]

De Villiers' ODI debut was in February 2005 against England, where he scored 20 in a tied match.[8] It was over two years later that he made his first ODI century in a man-of-the-match performance, scoring 146 against the West Indies in Grenada at the 2007 Cricket World Cup.[11] De Villiers' third highest score of 149 runs off 32 Delivery (cricket)|balls]] in the format came against the West Indies in Johannesburg.[1][9] During the course of the innings, he set the record for the fastest half-century (off 16 balls) and century (off 31 balls) in ODIs.[10][11] In the same match, he hit 16 sixes and leveled Rohit Sharma's record of most sixes by a batsman in an innings.[12] {{As of|2017|October}}, he has the sixth-highest number of centuries in ODIs.{{efn|He ranks next only to Virat Kohli and Hashim Amla among active players.[13]}}

Making his first Twenty20 International appearance in 2006, de Villiers has yet to score a century in the format.[14] {{As of|2017|October}}, his highest score is 79 not out which he made in a 130-run victory over Scotland in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 tournament.[15][16] {{As of|2018|4}}, de Villiers ranks tenth (with 47 centuries) in the all-time list for most centuries in international cricket.[17]
