The Marshall Thundering Herd college football team competes as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), representing the Marshall University in the Eastern Division of Conference USA (C-USA). Since the establishment of the team in 1895, Marshall has appeared in 15 bowl games.[1] The latest bowl occurred on December 20, 2018, when Marshall defeated South Florida 38–20 in the 2018 Gasparilla Bowl. The victory in that game brought the Herd's overall bowl record to twelve wins and two losses (12–2).[2] Key{{Col-begin|width=50%}}{{Col-break}}General{{dagger}} | Bowl game record attendance | {{double-dagger}} | Former bowl game record attendance | {{Col-break}}{{Col-break}}{{col-end}}Bowl gamesStatistics correct as of 2018–19 NCAA football bowl games.|group="A"}}# | Bowl | Score{{#tag:ref|Results are sortable first by whether the result was a Marshall win, loss or tie and then second by the margin of victory.|group="A" | Date | Season{{#tag:ref|Links to the season article for the Marshall team that competed in the bowl for that year.|group="A" | Opponent{{#tag:ref|Links to the season article for the opponent that Marshall competed against in the bowl for that year when available or to their general page when unavailable.|group="A" | Stadium | Location | Attendance[3] | Head coach | MVP | 1 | Tangerine Bowl{{#tag:ref|The Tangerine Bowl was unsanctioned by the NCAA until 1968.
