Connecticut hasn't had a male Major League sports team since the Hartford Whalers NHL team relocated to North Carolina in 1997. However, the state is home to the WNBA's Connecticut Sun and several Minor League sports teams.

Baseball

• Hartford Yard Goats

The team was founded in 2016, when the New Britain Rock Cats relocated to Hartford. The franchise is a Colorado Rockies affiliate in the AA Eastern League. Their home stadium is called Dunkin' Donuts Park.

• Connecticut Tigers

The Connecticut Tigers are a minor league baseball team based in Norwich. The franchise is a Detroit Tigers affiliate in the Class-A Short Season New York – Penn League. The team plays a season that starts in June and ends in early September. Their home stadium is called Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium.

• New Britain Bees

The New Britain Bees are an independent baseball team located in New Britain. They play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB). The team plays a season that starts in April and ends in September. Their home stadium is called New Britain Stadium.

Basketball

• Connecticut Sun

The Connecticut Sun are a women's professional basketball team in the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association). The Sun plays at the Mohegan Sun Arena, an arena inside the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville. After an April training camp, they play a 34-game season (17 at home and 17 away) that lasts from May to August.

Hockey

• Bridgeport Sound Tigers

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are a hockey team that play in the American Hockey League (AHL). They are affiliated with the NHL's New York Islanders. They play their home games at the Webster Bank Arena, which is at 600 Main Street in Bridgeport. The Sound Tigers play a season that starts in early October and ends in early April.

• Hartford Wolf Pack

The Hartford Wolf Pack are a hockey team that play in the American Hockey League (AHL). The team makes its home in Hartford. They are affiliated with the New York Rangers of the NHL. They play their home games at the XL Center, which is located at 1 Civic Center Plaza in Hartford. The Wolf Pack plays a season that starts in early October and ends in early April.

• Connecticut Whale

The Connecticut Whale is a professional women's ice hockey team based in Stamford, Connecticut. It is one of the franchises in National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) and was founded 2015. Its name and colors are an homage to the former NHL franchise known as the Hartford Whalers.

Lacrosse

• New England Black Wolves

The New England Black Wolves are a professional box lacrosse team based in Uncasville, Connecticut. They are members of the National Lacrosse League and began play in the winter of 2014–2015 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville.

Rugby league

• Connecticut Wildcats

Originally playing in the AMNRL, the club now competes in the USA Rugby League competition.
