This white solid can be formed by a reaction between lithium amide and lithium hydride.[1] LiNH2 + LiH → Li2NH + H2 The product is light-sensitive and can undergo disproportionation to form lithium nitride, which is characteristically red. 2 Li2NH → LiNH2 + Li3N Lithium imide is thought to have a simple face-centered cubic structure with a Fm{{overline|3}}m space group; with N-H bond distances of 0.82(6) Å and a H–N–H bond angle of 109.5°, giving it a similar structure to lithium amide.[2][3] Lithium imide is strongly basic and deprotonates even some extremely weak acids such as methane and ammonia, and even the hydrogen in hydroxide ion, due to the very locolized negative charge on the nitrogen, which carries two formal charges. It have uses in organic and organometallic chemistry. It has been investigated as a material for hydrogen storage.[1] References1. ^1 {{cite journal|last1=Ichikawa|first1=Takayuki|last2=Hanada|first2=Nobuko|last3=Isobe|first3=Shigehito|last4=Leng|first4=Haiyan|last5=Fujii|first5=Hironobu|title=Mechanism of Novel Reaction from LiNH2 and LiH to Li2NH and H2 as a Promising Hydrogen Storage System|journal=The Journal of Physical Chemistry B|date=June 2004|volume=108|issue=23|pages=7887–7892|doi=10.1021/jp049968y}} {{Lithium compounds}}{{nitrogen compounds}}{{hydrogen compounds}}{{inorganic-compound-stub}}2. ^{{cite journal|last1=Ohoyama|first1=Kenji|last2=Nakamori|first2=Yuko|last3=Orimo|first3=Shin-ichi|last4=Yamada|first4=Kazuyoshi|title=Revised Crystal Structure Model of Li2NH by Neutron Powder Diffraction|journal=Journal of the Physical Society of Japan|date=15 January 2005|volume=74|issue=1|pages=483–487|doi=10.1143/JPSJ.74.483|arxiv=cond-mat/0406025|bibcode=2005JPSJ...74..483O}} 3. ^{{cite journal|last1=Noritake|first1=T.|last2=Nozaki|first2=H.|last3=Aoki|first3=M.|last4=Towata|first4=S.|last5=Kitahara|first5=G.|last6=Nakamori|first6=Y.|last7=Orimo|first7=S.|title=Crystal structure and charge density analysis of Li2NH by synchrotron X-ray diffraction|journal=Journal of Alloys and Compounds|date=May 2005|volume=393|issue=1–2|pages=264–268|doi=10.1016/j.jallcom.2004.09.063}} 4 : Inorganic imides|Lithium compounds|Nitrogen compounds|Hydrogen compounds |
