It was described by George Duryea Hulst in 1886.[1] It is found in North America, where it has been recorded from Alberta and eastern Washington to California and New Mexico.[2][3] The habitat consists of prairies and badlands. The wingspan is about 26 mm. The ground colour of the forewings and hindwings is whitish with grey areas and checkered terminal lines. There is a yellowish-buff area along the costa and termen. Adults are on wing from June to August.[4] References1. ^{{cite web |last=Nuss |first=M. |display-authors=etal |date=2003–2017 |url=http://globiz.pyraloidea.org/Pages/Reports/TaxonReport.aspx |title=GlobIZ search |website=Global Information System on Pyraloidea |accessdate=February 15, 2018}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q13774104}}{{Pyraustinae-stub}}2. ^{{cite web |last=Savela |first=Markku |url=http://ftp.funet.fi/pub/sci/bio/life/insecta/lepidoptera/ditrysia/pyraloidea/crambidae/pyraustinae/loxostege/#lepidalis |title=Loxostege lepidalis (Hulst, 1886) |website=Lepidoptera and Some Other Life Forms |accessdate=February 15, 2018}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/species.php?hodges=4995 |title=801474.00 – 4995 – Loxostege lepidalis – (Hulst, 1886) |website=North American Moth Photographers Group |publisher=Mississippi State University |accessdate=February 15, 2018}} 4. ^University of Alberta E.H.
