Lucknow Mahanagar Parivahan Sewa ({{Lang-en|Lucknow Metropolitan Transport Service}}) is an urban bus service of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation which operates in the city of Lucknow and the surrounding area.

History

Lucknow Mahanagar Parivahan Sewa, or City Bus Service as it is popularly known, was established to cater to the increasing needs of Lucknow City. It is part of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. 100 buses were introduced at the start of the service in 2005. Within a few days, the response to the city bus was very positive.{{fact|date=March 2019}} In 2009 a new fleet of low floor normal and AC buses was introduced.

Organization

Lucknow Mahanagar Parivahan Sewa is headquartered at Lucknow. Its four depots are Gomti Nagar, Charbagh, Amausi, and Dubagga. The big buses are all parked in Gomtinagar and Charbagh. The mini buses are parked in Dubagga and Amausi. The terminals are at Gudamba, Virajkhand, Alambagh, Scooter India, Engineering college, B.B.D., Pasi Qila, Charbagh, Andhe ki Chowki, Budheshwar Chowraha.[1] It has a total of 650 employees.[2] LMPS is operated by "Lucknow City Transport Services Limited" (LCTS), as of.[3]

Fleet

The fleet consists of 260 buses - all CNG. Of them, 20 are A/C Low floor, 60 are non A/C Low floor, 60 are semi low floor and 120 are mini buses. There are presently many routes around the city.

Low Floor Bus Service

Lucknow Mahanagar Parivahan Sewa operates a large number of A/C and non A/C low floor buses under the title UPSRTC JNNURM: Low Floor Bus Service. The type of bus can be judged on the basis of their colour. The A/C buses are in dark blue and white, while the non A/C buses are in purple and white. All low floor buses in Lucknow are of TATA Marcopolo. These buses are equipped with all the required security measures. These buses can be used by physically disabled individuals though very rarely do such people use buses.{{fact|date=March 2019}} Low Floor Buses are now getting equipped with GPS and are capable of displaying the name of next stop. Modern automatic door opening/closing function is present in these buses.

Semi Low-Floor Bus Service

Semi Low-Floor Buses are used more often. These buses are equipped with basic security measures and are also equipped with GPS and the name of next stop is both displayed and announced in the bus. Automatic doors are not a feature on this type of bus. Instead, they are always open, thereby allowing foot boarding.{{clarification needed|date=March 2019}} These buses take less time at stops as time is not spent waiting for automatic door opening/closing.

Mini Buses

Mini Buses are smaller in size and primarily operate on smaller routes. These buses are very basic in terms of security and comfort. All 120 mini Buses in Lucknow Mahanagar Parivahan Sewa are made by Swaraj Mazda. They are also not equipped with automatic doors. These buses move faster in comparison to low floor and semi low floor buses.{{fact|date=March 2019}}

Computerization and GPS

All the buses are under observation and can be tracked. Big screens are placed at the bus stops, displaying information on forthcoming departures. Cameras are placed in each bus, so that internal activities of the bus staff and passengers can be recorded. All the cameras are under observation in a central observatory, and these observers are seen through another camera by higher authorities. By using GPS, bus timings can be shared easily and reliably.[4]
