It is a {{Convert|137|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} long single {{RailGauge|1676mm}} Broad gauge track from Madhupur city in Deoghar district to Koderma district via Giridih town in Giridih District of Jharkhand state. It is an extended route of Madhupur-Giridih railway line. The construction of {{convert|110|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} rail line from Maheshmunda to Koderma was done under supervision of Dhanbad Division of East Central Railway.[1] HistoryThe Giridih Railway Station was built as a railway siding in 1871 by the British government in India (prior to the India's independence in 1947) mainly for transport of mineral reserve from the region. The contract for the railway siding was awarded in 1865 and the construction was completed in 1871.[2] The siding is owned by Central Coalfields Limited.[3] Further extension{{Madhupur–Giridih–Koderma line}}A {{convert|110|km|mi|0|abbr=on}} track from Koderma to Maeshmunda has been constructed. A new railway station was built in Giridih (New Giridih - NGRH) which leaves out the already existing station (Giridih - GRD) on this route, also making Maheshmunda a junction station now. Effectively, the route extends from Koderma to Madhupur. On 16 February 2019, Eastern Railway in its press-release announced a passenger train service w.e.f. 25 February 2019 from Koderma to Madhupur. Onward journey duration is of 4 hours and 5 minutes while the return journey duration is 4 hours and 25 minutes. Eastern Railway also announced another passenger train service w.e.f. 25 February 2019 from Koderma to Maheshmunda Junction through the same press-release. Onward journey duration is of 3 hours while the return journey duration is 3 hours and 10 minutes.[4] There are proposals to connect Giridih town with the Parasnath Station, for the convenience of the Jain pilgrims visiting Parasnath, and another proposal to connect Giridih town with Dhanbad Junction.[5][6] DescriptionFollowing is the list of stations that are on Madhupur - Koderma route via New Giridih railway station in Giridih town.[7]
TrainsFive passenger trains run between Madhupur Junction-Giridih Station. The train service on Madhupur Giridih Railroute started on 1871. The trains run five times daily on Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday and four times on Sunday.[8] The Train that arrives the terminal departs with a different train number. The bogies of the express train are attached to the passenger train for movement in the Madhupur-Giridih route.
