Life and work

Nissen was born on November 17, 1979 in Hobro, Denmark. He completed his studies at the Danish School of Journalism in Copenhagen.

From 2004 to 2006 he worked as a staff photographer for the Danish newspaper Politiken, and subsequently as a freelance photojournalist for Newsweek, Time, Der Spiegel, Stern and The Sunday Times.{{Citation needed|date=December 2014}} He has documented the food crisis in Niger, overpopulation in the Philippines, and the Amazon rainforest.{{Citation needed|date=December 2014}}
