Her parents were Sebastian van Noort, an officer in the Army of Flanders, and Gertruda Bernaerts. On 8 December 1607 Margaret was admitted to the Brussels Carmel by the foundress of the convent, the Venerable Ana de Jesús, making her profession as a lay sister in 1609 and taking the name Margaret of the Mother of God. She died there in 1646, aged 59, having been a Carmelite lay sister for 37 years.[2] She was reputed to have gifts of prophecy and wonder-working, and recorded her spiritual experiences in an autobiography and collection of spiritual reflections.[3] An English translation of her writings was published in 2015 under the title Spiritual Writings of Sister Margaret of the Mother of God (1635-1643).[4] References1. ^Philip of the Blessed Trinity, [https://books.google.com/books?id=8uqm7w7IOqoC&pg=RA1-PA173 Decor Carmeli Religiosi], vol. 3 (Lyon, 1665), 173-178. {{authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Margaret of the Mother of God}}2. 11 (Louvain, 1768), 439-440. 3. ^Cosme de Villiers, [https://books.google.com/books?id=_OGGs9SUZz0C&vq=%22Margarita%20a%20Matre%20Dei%22&dq=%22Margarita%20a%20Matre%20Dei%22&pg=PT161 Bibliotheca Carmelitana], vol. 2 (Orleans, 1752), 332-333. 4. ^Iter, University of Toronto Libraries - Resources.
