Club careerHe began his football career at the age of six, when his father first took him on a training at a local football club.[2] Due to his low size he emphasized his training on technical elements and is known for his dribbling, agility and passing skills.[1] Although primarily a right-footed defender, he can also play as a midfielder. In July 2010 he signed a four-year contract with the Slovenian PrvaLiga club Maribor.[3] In the 2013–14 season, he was chosen as the best young footballer of the season in the Slovenian PrvaLiga.[4] In June 2014, after four years in Maribor, Milec signed for Belgian top division side Standard Liège. The transfer fee paid by Standard is alleged to be around €1.3 million.[5][6] On 6 August 2017, Milec returned to Maribor on a three-year contract.[7] International careerThroughout his career he has been a member of Slovenia youth selections and represented Slovenia U19 at the 2009 UEFA Under-19 Championship.[1][2] He also played for the Slovenia U21 team. He has been capped four times for the senior squad.[8] Personal lifeA native of Rače, Slovenia, he is a lifelong fan of NK Maribor, a club he played for, and regularly attended Maribor's matches as a child.[9] References1. ^1 2 3 4 {{cite web | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140625070548/http://nkmaribor.com/igralci/?id=44139|archive-date=25 June 2014|url = http://www.nkmaribor.com/igralci/?id=44139 | title = Osebni karton: Martin Milec |trans-title=Martin Milec - personal profile | publisher = NK Maribor | language = Slovenian | accessdate = 1 June 2011 }} 2. ^1 {{Cite news | url = http://www.nzs.si/index.php?t=news&id=1325&l=sl | title = Spoznajte udeleženca Eura U 19 – Martin Milec |trans-title=Meet the Euro U19 squad member – Martin Milec | publisher = Football Association of Slovenia | language = Slovenian |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160303224728/http://www.nzs.si/index.php?t=news&id=1325&l=sl|archive-date=3 March 2016|date=6 July 2009}} 3. ^{{Cite news | url = http://www.delo.si/clanek/115270 | title = Martin Milec v vijoličastem |trans-title=Martin Milec signed for The Violets | publisher = Delo | date = 28 July 2010 | accessdate = 1 June 2011 | language = Slovenian }} 4. ^{{cite news | url = http://www.nkmaribor.com/novice/?id=5502 | title = Naj mladi nogometaš sezone |trans-title=The best young footballer of the season | publisher = NK Maribor | date = 16 May 2014 | accessdate = 16 May 2014 | language = Slovenian }} 5. ^{{cite news | url = http://www.nkmaribor.com/novice/?id=5549 | title = Milec pred podpisom za Standard |trans-title=Milec is about to sign for Standard | publisher = NK Maribor | date = 27 June 2014 | accessdate = 27 June 2014 | language = Slovenian }} 6. ^{{cite news | url = http://snportal.si/drugo/le-se-zdravniski-pregled/ | title = Le še zdravniški pregled |trans-title=Only a medical examination left | author = Peter Dominko | publisher = SNPortal.si | date = 27 June 2014 | accessdate = 27 June 2014 | language = Slovenian }} 7. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.nkmaribor.com/novice/?id=7896|title=Tu je moj dom, vse za ta grb|language=sl|date=6 August 2017|accessdate=6 August 2017|publisher=NK Maribor|trans-title=Here is my home, everything for this crest}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.nzs.si/reprezentanca/default.asp?id_igralca=44139&id_selekcije=1|title=Martin Milec|accessdate=5 August 2017|language=sl|publisher=Football Association of Slovenia}} 9. ^{{Cite news | url = http://www.siol.net/sportal/sportal_plus/intervjuji/2011/03/martin_milec_cakam_na_pravo_priloznost.aspx | title = Martin Milec: Čakam na pravo priložnost |trans-title=Martin Milec: Waiting for the right opportunity | publisher = Siol | accessdate = 1 June 2011 | language = Slovenian }} External links
