She represented the electoral district of Halifax Bedford Basin in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003. She was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia.[1] McGrath was born in 1953 at Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, and educated at Saint Mary's University.[2] McGrath entered provincial politics when she was elected MLA for Halifax Bedford Basin in the 1999 election.[3] She served as a backbench MLA in John Hamm's government. McGrath ran in the new district of Halifax Clayton Park in the 2003 election,[4] but lost to Liberal Diana Whalen by 295 votes.[5][6] McGrath made another attempt at winning the seat in the 2006 election, but was again defeated by Whalen.[7] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://nslegislature.ca/pdfs/about/ConstituencyHistories/clayton%20park%20west.pdf|title=Electoral History for Halifax Bedford Basin|publisher=Nova Scotia Legislative Library|accessdate=2015-06-16}} {{DEFAULTSORT:McGrath, Mary Ann}}{{ProgressiveConservative-NovaScotia-MLA-stub}}2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.pcparty.ns.ca/cgi-bin/view?src=mcgrath|title=MLA biography|publisher=Progressive Conservative Association of Nova Scotia|accessdate=2015-06-16|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20030626132102/http://www.pcparty.ns.ca/cgi-bin/view?src=mcgrath|archivedate=June 26, 2003}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://electionsnovascotia.ca/sites/default/files/99HLFXBB.pdf|title=Election Returns, 1999 (Halifax Bedford Basin)|publisher=Elections Nova Scotia|accessdate=2014-10-21}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.herald.ns.ca/cgi-bin/home/displaypackstory?2003/08/01+232.raw+PE03Aug1+2 |title=Hear them roar in Halifax Clayton Park |work=The Chronicle Herald |date=August 1, 2003 |accessdate=2014-10-21 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20050124062351/http://www.herald.ns.ca/cgi-bin/home/displaypackstory?2003%2F08%2F01%2B232.raw%2BPE03Aug1%2B2 |archivedate=January 24, 2005 |deadurl=yes |df= }} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://electionsnovascotia.ca/sites/default/files/03dist28.pdf|title=Election Returns, 2003 (Halifax Clayton Park)|publisher=Elections Nova Scotia|accessdate=2014-10-21}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.herald.ns.ca/cgi-bin/home/displaypackstory?2003/08/06+224.raw+PE03Aug6+2 |title=Metro unravelled Tory majority |work=The Chronicle Herald |date=August 6, 2003 |accessdate=2014-10-21 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20050124052049/http://www.herald.ns.ca/cgi-bin/home/displaypackstory?2003%2F08%2F06%2B224.raw%2BPE03Aug6%2B2 |archivedate=January 24, 2005 |deadurl=yes |df= }} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://electionsnovascotia.ca/sites/default/files/dist28_0.pdf|title=Election Returns, 2006 (Halifax Clayton Park)|publisher=Elections Nova Scotia|accessdate=2014-10-21}} 8 : 1953 births|Living people|People from Cumberland County, Nova Scotia|Progressive Conservative Association of Nova Scotia MLAs|Saint Mary's University (Halifax) alumni|Women MLAs in Nova Scotia|21st-century Canadian politicians|21st-century women politicians |
