BiographyHeming was born in London, England. She was the daughter of Wilson Lowry. The engraver Joseph Wilson Lowry was her younger half-brother. She is known for watercolour portraits, but her landscape painting Backwater, Weymouth, was included in the 1905 book Women Painters of the World.[1] Today it is in the collection of the British Museum, along with a few more landscapes and a portrait she made of the writer Mary Somerville.[2] References1. ^Women painters of the world, from the time of Caterina Vigri, 1413-1463, to Rosa Bonheur and the present day, by Walter Shaw Sparrow, The Art and Life Library, Hodder & Stoughton, 27 Paternoster Row, London, 1905 {{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Heming, Matilda}}{{UK-painter-18thC-stub}}2. ^[https://www.britishmuseum.org/research/collection_online/search.aspx?searchText=matilda%20heming Matilda Heming] in the British Museum 5 : 1796 births|1855 deaths|People from London|British painters|British women painters |
