He previously served as the assistant general manager of MLB's Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Baseball careerKlentak was raised in Medfield, Massachusetts, and attended Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Massachusetts where he earned three varsity letters in baseball. He then attended Dartmouth College, where he played college baseball for the Dartmouth Big Green all four years, starting at shortstop for three years, and serving as the team captain in his senior year.[1] Bob Whalen, Dartmouth's head coach, moved Ed Lucas from shortstop to third base so that Klentak could play shortstop.[2] Klentak graduated from Dartmouth in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in economics.[1][2] Klentak worked for the Colorado Rockies in their Baseball Operations department during the 2003 season. In 2008, MacPhail hired Klentak as Director of Baseball Operations.[1] After the 2011 season, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim hired Klentak as their assistant general manager.[3][4] When Jerry Dipoto, the Angels' general manager, resigned during the 2015 season, Klentak was interviewed for the position. The Angels hired Billy Eppler.[5] The Philadelphia Phillies, led by MacPhail as their president, interviewed Klentak for their general manager position after the 2015 season.[6] The Phillies hired Klentak as their general manager, introducing him at a press conference on October 26, 2015.[7] Personal lifeKlentak is from Medfield, Massachusetts.[8] Klentak's father, George, is an engineer and his mother, Josee, works as a teacher's aide.[9] He and his wife, Lauren, met at Dartmouth and have two daughters.[7] References1. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://www.dartmouthsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=11600&ATCLID=1398074|title=Klentak '02 Named as Director of Baseball Operations for the Baltimore Orioles|work=DartmouthSports.com|accessdate=July 1, 2015}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2011/11/angels-hire-31-year-old-matt-klentak-as-assistant-gm.html|title=Sports Now|work=latimes.com|accessdate=October 5, 2015}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2011-11-23/sports/bs-sp-orioles-1124-20111123_1_matt-klentak-arbitration-process-andy-macphail|title=Klentak leaves Orioles to become Angels assistant GM|work=tribunedigital-baltimoresun|accessdate=July 1, 2015}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://m.mlb.com/news/article/26643526/|title=Servais, Klentak offer unique expertise|work=Major League Baseball|accessdate=July 1, 2015}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.pe.com/articles/eppler-782518-manager-angels.html|title=ANGELS: Eppler named new GM|work=Press Enterprise|first=Pedro|last=Moura|date=October 4, 2015|accessdate=October 5, 2015}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.csnphilly.com/baseball-philadelphia-phillies/phillies-andy-macphail-general-manager-search-down-to-three-finalists-could-end-soon|title=Phillies' GM search down to 3 finalists, could end soon|work=Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia|accessdate=October 26, 2015}} 7. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/phillies/20151026_Phils__new_GM_comes_highly_recommended.html|title=Phils' new GM comes highly recommended|date=October 26, 2015|work=Philly.com|accessdate=October 26, 2015}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2008/04/10/from_oriole_road_to_orioles_front_office/|title=From Oriole Road to Orioles front office|work=Boston.com|accessdate=October 5, 2015}} 9. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.ocregister.com/articles/klentak-376710-baseball-angels.html|title=Klentak wants to build a champion at Angel Stadium|first=Marcia C.|last=Smith|work=Orange County Register|date=November 4, 2012|accessdate=October 26, 2015}} External links{{baseballstats|cube=30843}}
