Mawsata was located in the western and southwestern part of Upper Yafa. The main mountain in the area is Jabal Darfan. Mawsata was the most populated of the five sheikhdoms of Upper Yafa. The last ruler was deposed in 1967 upon the founding of the People's Republic of South Yemen and the area is now part of the Republic of Yemen.[1] HistoryThe State of Mawsata (Dawlat Mawsata) was established in 1780.
