It dwells at a depth range of {{convert|100|to|400|m|ft}}, and leads a benthic lifestyle; it is collected by bottom trawlers. Males can reach a maximum total length of {{convert|52.2|cm|in}}.[2] The species epithet "mccoskeri" was given in honour of American ichthyologist John E.
