He is the brother of Daniel Talia who plays for the Adelaide Football Club, and is the grandson of Harvey Stevens, a former Footscray player leading the club to their first premiership in 1954.[1] His great-grandfather, Arthur Stevens, also played for Footscray.[2] Talia was recruited by the Western Buldogs in the 2011 national draft with pick 39 and made his debut in round 19, 2012, against {{AFL NM}} at Etihad Stadium. He earned the round 15 nomination for the 2013 AFL Rising Star after a 32-possession game against {{AFL GWS}}.[3] In October 2015, he was traded to {{AFL Syd}}.[4] In round 1, his first game for the Swans, he suffered a Lisfranc ligament injury in the last quarter against Collingwood, ruling him out for the next eight to twelve weeks.[5] Dane Swan also suffered the same injury, as well as multiple fractures in his foot and lower leg. Complications with the injury saw him placed on the long term injury list.[6] In July 2016, Talia was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine[7] and he later pleaded guilty to the charges and was placed on a twelve month good behaviour bond.[8] Talia was delisted at the conclusion of the 2017 season.[9] StatisticsStatistics are correct to the end of the 2017 season[10]{{AFL player statistics legend}}{{AFL player statistics start}} |- style="background-color: #EAEAEA" | 2012 |{{AFL WB}} | 32 || 4 || 1 || 0 || 30 || 24 || 54 || 18 || 4 || 0.3 || 0.0 || 7.5 || 6.0 || 13.5 || 4.5 || 1.0 |- | 2013 |{{AFL WB}} | 32 || 9 || 0 || 0 || 92 || 82 || 174 || 40 || 11 || 0.0 || 0.0 || 10.2 || 9.1 || 19.3 || 4.4 || 1.2 |- style="background:#eaeaea;" | 2014 |{{AFL WB}} | 32 || 3 || 0 || 0 || 18 || 18 || 36 || 10 || 1 || 0.0 || 0.0 || 6.0 || 6.0 || 12.0 || 3.3 || 0.3 |- | 2015 |{{AFL WB}} | 32 || 14 || 2 || 1 || 126 || 109 || 235 || 82 || 19 || 0.1 || 0.1 || 9.0 || 7.8 || 16.8 || 5.9 || 1.4 |- style="background:#eaeaea;" | 2016 |{{AFL Syd}} | 32 || 1 || 0 || 0 || 7 || 3 || 10 || 3 || 1 || 0.0 || 0.0 || 7.0 || 3.0 || 10.0 || 3.0 || 1.0 |- class="sortbottom" | Career | 31 | 3 | 1 | 273 | 236 | 509 | 153 | 36 | 0.1 | 0.0 | 8.8 | 7.6 | 16.4 | 4.9 | 1.2 |} References1. ^{{cite web|title=Dogs' teenage fanclub|url=http://www.afl.com.au/news/newIsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/143589/default.aspx|author=Collins, Ben|date=6 August 2012|publisher=AFL.com.au|accessdate=11 August 2012}} 2. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/it8217s-a-dogs8217-life-for-the-talia-family/story-fni5f4l8-1226698020077|title=It's a Dogs' life for the Talia family|last=Capel|first=Andrew|work=Adelaide Advertiser|publisher=Herald Sun|accessdate=4 February 2015}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-07-09/family-affair |title=Talia makes Rising Star a family affair |website=afl.com.au}} 4. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-10-22/swans-land-key-defender-talia-from-western-bulldogs|title=Swans land key defender Talia from Western Bulldogs|last=Navaratnam|first=Dinny|date=22 October 2015|work=AFL.com.au|publisher=Bigpond|accessdate=22 October 2015}} 5. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-03-29/foot-injury-rules-out-swan-michael-talia-for-eight-to-12-weeks-|title=Foot injury rules out Swan Michael Talia for eight to 12 weeks|first=Adam |last=Curley|date=29 March 2016|work=AFL.com.au|publisher=Bigpond|accessdate=2 April 2016}} 6. ^http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-05-19/swans-duo-placed-on-longterm-injury-list 7. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.smh.com.au/afl/sydney-swans/sydney-swans-player-michael-talia-charged-with-possession-of-cocaine-20160718-gq8avs.html|title=Sydney Swans player Michael Talia charged with possession of cocaine|last=Wu|first=Andrew|date=18 July 2016|work=The Sydney Morning Herald|publisher=Fairfax Media|accessdate=5 March 2017}} 8. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.smh.com.au/afl/sydney-swans/sydney-swans-player-michael-talia-pleads-guilty-to-drug-possession-20160804-gqkqai.html|title=Sydney Swans player Michael Talia pleads guilty to drug possession|last=Partridge|first=Emma|date=4 August 2016|work=The Sydney Morning Herald|publisher=Fairfax Media|accessdate=5 March 2017}} 9. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-09-22/swans-cut-three-edwards-retires|title=Swans delist three, Edwards retires|last=Unknown|first=Unknown|date=22 September 2017|work=AFL.com.au|publisher=AFL|accessdate=22 September 2017}} 10. ^{{cite web|url=https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/M/Michael_Talia.html|title=Michael Talia|work=AFL Tables|accessdate=1 October 2017}} External links
