He has held that position since prior to the 2011 season.[1] Early lifeAoki was born in Yokohama, Japan, and raised in Milton, Massachusetts. He attended Milton Academy prior to enrolling at Davidson College. Aoki earned four varsity letters while starting for three seasons for the Wildcats at catcher, second base, and third base. He was a prolific hitter and still ranks among career leaders in several offensive categories. Aoki hit two grand slams in 1988, one of just six Davidson players to hit two in one season.[1] He played one professional season for HCAW in the Netherlands in 1991. Coaching careerAoki began his coaching career as head coach at Manchester Community College in Manchester, Connecticut. After one season, he became an assistant at Ohio, where he stayed for two years and earned a master's degree. He then moved to Dartmouth for four seasons before landing his first Division I head coaching job at Ivy League Columbia. In his five seasons, the Lions were 87–140, including twenty or more wins in each of Aoki's last three seasons. Columbia had not won twenty or more games in a season since 1987.[1] [2][3]Head coaching recordThe below table shows Aoki's yearly records as an NCAA head baseball coach.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10] {{CBB yearly record start|type=coach}}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead|name=Columbia|conference=Ivy League|startyear=1999|endyear=2003}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=1999|name=Columbia|overall=13–27|conference=7–13|confstanding=2nd (Gehrig)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2000|name=Columbia|overall=11–34|conference=6–14|confstanding=4th (Gehrig)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2001|name=Columbia|overall=20–27|conference=10–10|confstanding=2nd (Gehrig)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2002|name=Columbia|overall=22–25|conference=10–10|confstanding=3rd (Gehrig)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2003|name=Columbia|overall=21–27|conference=9–11|confstanding=T-3rd (Gehrig)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record subtotal|name=Columbia|overall=87–140|confrecord=42–58}}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead|name=Boston College|conference=ACC|startyear=2007|endyear=2010}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2007|name=Boston College|overall=24–27–1|conference=12–17|confstanding=5th (Atlantic)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2008|name=Boston College|overall=26–27|conference=9–21|confstanding=T-5th (Atlantic)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2009|name=Boston College|overall=34–26|conference=13–15|confstanding=3rd (Atlantic)|postseason=NCAA Regional}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2010|name=Boston College|overall=30–28|conference=14–16|confstanding=4th (Atlantic)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record subtotal|name=Boston College|overall=114-108-1|confrecord=48-69}}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead|name=Notre Dame|conference=Big East Conference|startyear=2011|endyear=2013}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2011|name=Notre Dame|overall=23–29–1|conference=13–13|confstanding=8th|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2012|name=Notre Dame|overall=31–27|conference=14–13|confstanding=7th|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2013|name=Notre Dame|overall=34-24|conference=10-14|confstanding=7th|postseason=}}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead | name= Notre Dame | conference= Atlantic Coast Conference | startyear = 2014 | endyear =}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2014|name=Notre Dame|overall=22–31|conference=9–21|confstanding=7th (Atlantic)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2015|name=Notre Dame|overall=37-23|conference=17–13|confstanding=T-2nd (Atlantic)|postseason=NCAA Regional}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2016|name=Notre Dame|overall=27-27|conference=11–17|confstanding=7th (Atlantic)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2017|name=Notre Dame|overall=26-32|conference=10–20|confstanding=7th (Atlantic)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record entry|championship=|season=2018|name=Notre Dame|overall=24-30|conference=12–18|confstanding=6th (Atlantic)|postseason=}}{{CBB yearly record subtotal|name=Notre Dame|overall=224–223–1|confrecord=96–129}}{{CBB yearly record end|overall=425–471–2}}See also
