Reed campaigns in the super lightweight division and is promoted by Top Rank.[3] Amateur careerReed was a decorated amateur, winning many National Championships. He won the 2005 National Silver Gloves Championship,[4] the 2009 U.S. Junior National Championship,[5] and the 2011 National Golden Gloves Championship.[6] Reed finished second at the 2010 U.S. National Championships,[7] third at the 2010 National PAL Championships,[8] and fourth at the 2011 U.S. National Championships.[9] Reed was named the 2011 Amateur Boxer of the Year by prominent boxing website Stiff Jab. Reed finished his illustrious amateur career with an impressive record of 90–13. Professional careerHe was named 2014 Prospect of the Year by world-renowned blog, Boxing Along the Beltway after a stellar year in which he went 6–0, 2 KOs, defeating two undefeated fighters and signing with the premier promotion in the sport, Top Rank.[10] At the age of 24, Mike is a four-year pro. A blue-chip prospect at 140 pounds, Reed has stayed active in the ring and made good progress. He fought six times in 2013, six times in 2014, and five times in 2015. He has gone the full eight-round distance three times, and the full six-round distance five times. "All of our matchmakers feel he will be making a big mark on the sport of boxing," Top Rank founder and CEO Bob Arum said in a news conference. "Without much time passing, he will be appearing on the stage in a big televised fight on HBO, or on our pay-per-view events. He is one of the brightest lights in boxing." Reed can move and flutter, but he is a banger, a power puncher. Soft-spoken and relaxed off the clock, Reed is confrontational and direct in the ring. In his last fight on March 18 in Philadelphia, he won a six-round unanimous decision against Samuel Amoako. Mike consistently outworked Amoako, landed the harder punches, and dominated the fight – scored 60-54 on all three scorecards. In his previous fight on November 11 in Las Vegas, Mike won by seventh-round TKO against Rondale Hubbert. Hubbert did his best to see the final bell but ate a vicious right hand that sent him to the canvas. He would rise but Reed forced the stoppage with a left hand at the 1:09 mark. Reed has stepped up his game over his past several fights, hardly a surprise given his rich boxing background. A noted amateur who claimed several titles in compiling a 90-13 record, the southpaw joined a movement of gifted boxers who – in light of major changes in the amateur ranks – opted to turn pro in lieu of making a run for the 2016 U.S. Olympic boxing team. "He has gotten better and better each time out over the last year," insists Carl Moretti, vice president of operations for Top Rank. "He has impressed all of us at Top Rank with his steady and consistent performances. Out of the ring, Mike and his dad Buck (Michael “Buck” Pinson) are as professional, respectful people as you’ll ever meet. Both are a great pleasure to work with and promote." As classy as he is outside the ring, Reed has proven to be a fighter to watch from bell to bell. Now with a professional record of (21–1 12 KOs), the 23-year-old from Washington, D.C. remains focused on his aspirations of having his name mentioned alongside the iconic World Champions who paved the way for Reed's younger generation.
