CommunityIn 2014 Mills Oakley partnered with Salvos Legal Humanitarian to provide pro bono legal services to vulnerable members of the community. The partnership's activity has grown each year since then and in 2017 assisted over 450 clients on a pro bono basis. Mills Oakley is also known for its advocacy work in assisting seriously ill patients to gain access to appropriate treatment, such as medicinal cannabis for patients suffering epilepsy seizures.[8] Mills Oakley AcceleratorIn 2016, Mills Oakley launched the first Australian legal services accelerator.[9] The Mills Oakley Accelerator was the result of a collaboration between Mills Oakley and Collective Campus - a start-up incubator. The accelerator was an end-to-end innovation program offering new law entrepreneurs and start-ups the funding, tools and support they needed to grow their idea into a viable business.[10] The Accelerator drove innovation by providing a 13-week incubator support program and start-up funding to aspiring entrepreneurs. As a result of this process, Mills Oakley has taken equity stakes in two start-up businesses and is collaborating with these businesses to develop new offerings in the AI (contract review) and chatbot space.
