Gochev qualified for the Bulgarian squad, as a 31-year-old veteran, in the men's 84 kg class at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, by receiving an allocated berth from the International Federation of Associated Wrestling (FILA).[3] Facing against two Olympic medalists from Sydney four years earlier, Gochev opened an astonishing 4–2 victory over Macedonia's Mogamed Ibragimov, but could not push South Korean wrestler Moon Eui-Jae off the mat, and suffered a defeat by a 5–9 score at the end of the round-robin. Finishing second in the prelim pool and twelfth overall, Gochev's performance was not enough to advance him to the quarterfinals.[4][5] References1. ^{{cite sports-reference|Miroslav Gochev|https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/go/miroslav-gochev-1.html|22 June 2014}} 2. ^{{cite news|last=Abbott|first=Gary|title=Kolat wins silver medal at Freestyle World Championships in Russia|url=http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=3195|work=USA Wrestling|publisher=The Mat|date=30 August 1997|accessdate=22 June 2014}} 3. ^{{cite news|last=Abbott|first=Gary|title=Olympic Games preview at 84 kg/185 lbs. in men's freestyle|url=http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=10329|work=USA Wrestling|publisher=The Mat|date=18 July 2004|accessdate=29 September 2013}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=Wrestling: Men's Freestyle 84kg|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics_2004/wrestling/results/3532654.stm|work=Athens 2004|publisher=BBC Sport|date=15 August 2004|accessdate=30 September 2013}} 5. ^{{cite news|title=Катастрофа за борците|trans-title=Disaster for wrestlers|language=Bulgarian|url=http://paper.standartnews.com/archive/2004/08/29/folio5/s4185_2.htm|publisher=Standart|date=29 August 2004|accessdate=22 June 2014}} External links
