In the field of industrial control systems, Module Marketplace is an online store, similar in concept to: the iTunes Store or Google Play for the SCADA software industry. Inductive Automation opened it on March 4, 2013.[1] OverviewThe Module Marketplace is designed for the users and developers of the Ignition integrated development platform. All modules are developed using the Ignition software development kit (SDK). Some modules are free while others are for sale. The Marketplace contains both Inductive Automation and third-party modules for Ignition software. Media responseEarly reviews compared the Module Marketplace to the Apple iTunes store,[2][3] indicated that it was disruptive[4] and that it removed proprietary boundaries among SCADA software producers.[5] Market structureDevelopers set their own pricing models in the marketplace, with 70% of the revenue going to the developer and 30% going to Inductive Automation.[6] Al1 modules are required to be submitted for validation to Inductive Automation to test for stability, compatibility and memory leaks. Upon validation, the module is digitally signed by Inductive Automation and may be uploaded to the Module Marketplace. All modules are required to include a free user re-settable 2-hour trial version.[7] References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.inductiveautomation.com/news/item/298/4 |title=Inductive Automation to Launch First Community-Based Industrial Automation Software Module Store |publisher=Inductive Automation |accessdate=10 Mar 2013 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130729011528/http://inductiveautomation.com/news/item/298/4 |archivedate=2013-07-29 |df= }} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.digitalbond.com/blog/2013/02/22/friday-news-notes-64/|title=Digital Bond Friday News & Notes|author=Dale Peterson| accessdate=10 Mar 2013|date=22 Feb 2013}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.automationworld.com/consumer-technology-drives-automation|title=Consumer Technology Drives Automation|publisher=Automation World|author=Dave Greenfield| accessdate=10 Mar 2013|date=14 Feb 2013}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.garymintchellsfeedforward.com/feed-forward/2013/2/18/arc-forum-2013-first-community-based-industrial-automation-s.html|title=ARC Forum 2013: First Community-Based Industrial Automation Software Module Store|publisher=Gary Mintchell Feed Forward|author=Gary Mintchell|accessdate=10 Mar 2013|date=18 Feb 2013|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130413034604/http://www.garymintchellsfeedforward.com/feed-forward/2013/2/18/arc-forum-2013-first-community-based-industrial-automation-s.html|archivedate=2013-04-13|df=}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.arcweb.com/industry-news/2013-02-14/inductive-automation-to-launch-first-community-based-industrial-automation-software-module-store.aspx|title=http://www.arcweb.com/industry-news/2013-02-14/inductive-automation-to-launch-first-community-based-industrial-automation-software-module-store.aspx|publisher=ARC Advisory Group |author=Craig Resnick| accessdate=10 Mar 2013|date=15 Feb 2013}} 6. ^{{cite podcast| title = Module Marketplace Launch Webinar|time=42:10| publisher = Inductive Automation | host = Don Pearson| date =4 March 2013|accessdate = 10 Mar 2013}} 7. ^{{cite podcast| title = Module Marketplace Launch Webinar|time=43:10| publisher = Inductive Automation | author = Travis Cox| date =4 March 2013}} External links
