The species was described in 1951 by John Clark. Myrmecia hirsuta is distributed across the whole country of Australia, with their distribution is in most Australian states.[1] Workers are 21-33 millimetres long, and could be bigger. The head, jaws, antennae, thorax, legs, and most of their features are in a brownish red colour, with some black colouring as well. Their jaws are longer than their own head, like many other bull ant species.[2] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://bie.ala.org.au/species/Myrmecia+hirsuta|title=Myrmecia hirsuta Clark, 1951|author= |date=|work=Atlas of Living Australia |publisher=Govt of Australia |accessdate=8 March 2014 }} {{Taxonbar|from=Q13868815}}{{Myrmeciinae-stub}}2. ^{{Cite book |first=John |last=Clark |title=The Formicidae of Australia (Volume 1) |publisher=Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Australia|place=Melbourne |year=1951 |pages=109–110 |url=http://www.antwiki.org/wiki/images/e/e5/Clark_1951.pdf }} 4 : Myrmeciinae|Hymenoptera of Australia|Insects described in 1951|Insects of Australia |
