The National Australia Bank Building is a heritage-listed bank building in the Brisbane central business district. Located at 180 Queen Street, it was constructed in 1929–30 and designed by the Melbourne architects A&K Henderson in the neo-classical architectural style. The NAB Building was heritage listed by the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.[1]

History

The building on the current site replaced a bank was erected in 1891 by the Royal Bank of Queensland. In 1917, the Royal Bank of Queensland entered a merger with the Bank of North Queensland to form the Bank of Queensland, which in 1922 was merged into the National Bank of Queensland, thus leading to the construction of the current building on the site, spanning two years, from 1929 to 1930.

The Melbourne-based architects A&K Hendersen designed the building, with assistance from the local Brisbane firm of Atkinson, Powell & Conrad. GA Stronach served as the contractor, with Thomas Walker Pearce providing technical advice. It was designed in the neo-classical style, commonplace for commercial and civic buildings during that era.
