It oversees all aspects of civil aviation within the Portuguese territory and all its dependencies.[2] The ANAC was created on {{date|2007-4-27}} to succeed the former National Institute of Civil Aviation ({{lang-pt|Instituto Nacional de Aviação Civil}}), which had been created on {{date|1998-5-15}} for taking over the General Directorate of Civil Aviation ({{lang-pt|Direcção-Geral da Aviação Civil}}).[1] The body is organised into a Directorate Council which is in turn sub-divided into five Directorates and three Cabinets, a Consultant Council, and a Finance Council.[3] It has its headquarters in Lisbon Airport.[4] See also
