The highway connects some of the biggest urban agglomerations in Poland, i.e. Trójmiasto, Bydgoszcz, Poznań and Wrocław. It runs from Nowe Marzy to Lubawka at the Czech border and between Bielany Wrocławskie and Kostomłoty merges with A4 motorway.
