Its dorsal fin is raised to scare off or startle predators. It also has a large venomous spine at the corner of its preopercle.[2] It is relatively unaffected by commercial fishing, but is sometimes used as bait for tuna fisheries.[1] References1. ^1 2 3 {{Cite journal | author = Williams, I. | author2 = Greenfield, D. | last-author-amp = yes | title = Neoniphon opercularis | journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species | volume = 2016 | page = e.T67871260A115438548 | publisher = IUCN | date = 2016 | url = http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/67871260/0 | doi = 10.2305/IUCN.UK.2016-1.RLTS.T67871260A67871875.en | access-date = 23 December 2017}} 2. ^{{FishBase species |genus=Neoniphon |species=opercularis |year=2016 |month=December}} External links
