Released in 1998, the album was the follow-up to Republica's self-titled debut album. ReleaseSpeed Ballads reached #37 on the UK Album Charts.[3] The album never received release in the United States.[4]SinglesThe album spawned only one single, "From Rush Hour With Love." It achieved modest success, peaking at number 20 on the UK Singles chart, but spending only three weeks on the chart.[3] The follow-up single, "Try Anything,"[1] received only limited release, due to the bankruptcy and closure of Deconstruction Records, the group's label.[5] Critical receptionThe album was met with mixed reviews from contemporary music critics. AllMusic's Jason Damas felt that the album "exhibits some remarkable growth" over its predecessor, calling the album "far more diverse" and highlighting "Try Everything," "From Rush Hour with Love," and "Fading of the Man" as choice cuts.[1] Track listing{{tracklist| title1 = From Rush Hour with Love | writer1 = Saffron, Dorney, Male | length1 = 3:25 | title2 = Fading of the Man | writer2 = Saffron, Dorney, Male | length2 = 4:34 | title3 = Try Everything | writer3 = Saffron, Dorney, Male, Guy Batson | length3 = 4:02 | title4 = Luxury Cage | writer4 = Saffron, Dorney, Male, Andy Todd | length4 = 5:03 | title5 = Faster Faster | writer5 = Saffron, Dorney, Male | length5 = 3:20 | title6 = Nothing's Feeling New | writer6 = Saffron, Dorney, Male, Williams | length6 = 3:51 | title7 = Millennium | writer7 = Saffron, Dorney, Male, Todd | length7 = 3:14 | title8 = Pretty Girl Hate | writer8 = Saffron, Dorney, Male | length8 = 3:47 | title9 = Kung Fu Movies | writer9 = Saffron, Dorney, Male, Pete Smith | length9 = 4:00 | title10 = Pub Pusher | writer10 = Saffron, Dorney, Male | length10 = 4:22 }} B-SidesThere are known to be five B-sides from the Speed Ballads era.
