New Jagnasury-I is a village in southern part of Chakma Autonomous District Council, Lawngtlai District in the state of Mizoram, India. It is also called Damdep-I. Most of the people depend on agri-farming where few of them engage in government services. New Jagnasury-I is one of the speedy growing villages in terms of education as compared to others in CADC.

Educational Institutions

There is a govt Primary school and a Middle school located at the heart of the village. Stating High school, it is to be established under RMSA in the near future. There is also a missionary Primary School run by BCM located at the outskirt of the village. Besides the village could not provide higher education to its students, it has produced a number of educated personnels in different fields of education such as arts, commerce, science, engineering etc.

Transport

New Jagnasury is well connected by all-weather road to and from Lawngtlai, the district headquarters. It takes around one hour by car from Longpuighat (a village of CADC) to reach New Jagnasury-I.

Religious Institutions

Most of the people (99.99%) of New Jagnasury - I are Buddhist and follow the Theravada way of teaching and living. They have a Buddhist Monastery named Uttamasara Buddha Vihar, where some monks permanently reside. The vihara is believed to have been established in the beginning of 1970's. Recently, a proposal has been passed that the Monastery shall be shifted to the outskirt of the village in order to enlarge the complex of it. An outlay plan was designed to accommodate the various structures during the construction of the new monastery complex. In this regard a lump sum budget is also proposed.

Culture

During the major festivals of Buddhism, the villagers visit the village monastery (Khyong), listen to Dhamma and receive and take refuge in the five precepts (panchasheel) and eight precepts (asthasheel). Though they are Buddhist, some still follow the traditional beliefs of practising animism.

Market

Every Monday of the week is the market day of the village. Some of the villagers are engaged in retail business. There are about ten shops in the village which deal with grocery goods.

Tourism

There is one rest house run by Public Works Department. The prospective guests who visit the village, especially the VIPs and the tourists usually halt at this rest house.
