The party was banned from participating in the 2014 Donbass parliamentary elections because they "were not able to hold a founding conference."[9] Members of the party took part in the election on the election lists of "Free Donbass".[9] ObjectivesAccording to the party, their aim is "the withdrawal of all south-eastern Ukrainian lands from the jurisdiction of the Kiev authorities ... based on the principle of direct democracy ... creating a new, truly fair, scientifically and technologically advanced state."[10] History{{see also|2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine}}FoundingThe New Russia Party was founded on 13 May 2014 in Donetsk, Ukraine.[11] Its creation was announced by Pavel Gubarev, then acting as "People's Governor" of Donetsk, who stated, "The new party will be led only by those people who in this difficult time showed themselves as true patriots of their Motherland and proved themselves as true fighters and defenders of their Fatherland."[11] The first congress was attended by pro-Russian separatist officials of the Donetsk People's Republic, Donbass Militia. Notable figures were involved, including: Donetsk Republic leader Pavel Gubarev (member of the Neo-Nazi Russian National Unity), writer Alexander Prokhanov, fascist[12][13][14] political scientist and Eurasia Party leader Aleksandr Dugin, and Valery Korovin.[6] The congress announced the creation of a new self-declared confederate state called 'New Russia'. The state would, according to Dugin, have its capital city in Donetsk, Russian Orthodox Christianity as the state religion, and would nationalize major industries.[15] According to Gubarev the state would also include (the major cities currently not under control of separatists) Kharkiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv and Zaporizhia.[16][17][18] Donbass elections{{main|Donbass general elections, 2014}}On 2 November 2014, internationally unrecognized elections were held in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. The New Russia Party was refused registration in the DPR because it had not held a founding conference.[9] It subsequently stood candidates under the Free Donbass grouping, which received 31.6% of the vote.[9] Ekaterina Gubareva was set to head the election list of Free Donbass party for the People's Soviet of the Donetsk People's Republic of 11 November 2018[19] but on 29 September 2018 she was excluded from this list after she was hold in custody by unknown people.[20] After this incident she left for Rostov-on-Don (in Russia).[21]SanctionsAs part of the sanctions imposed during the Ukrainian crisis, the party was placed on US sanctions lists on 19 December 2014. The Treasury Department stated that the party, which had been "created to unite all supporters for the establishment of an independent federal state of Novorossiya and to withdraw all southeastern lands in Ukraine from the authority of Kyiv", was "designated because it has engaged in actions or policies that threaten the peace, security, stability, sovereignty, or territorial integrity of Ukraine".[22] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://dnr.today/news/sostoyalas-press-konferenciya-pavla-gubareva/|script-title=ru:В Донецке состоялась пресс-конференция Павла Губарева|trans-title=Pavel Gubarev held a press conference in Donetsk|language=Russian|date=14 November 2014}} {{Ukrainian crisis navbox}}{{Donbass political parties}}2. ^{{cite news |author= |date=24 May 2014 |title=Self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk republics form 'Novorossiya' union |url=http://rt.com/news/161304-donetsk-lugansk-unite-state/ |newspaper=RT |location= |access-date=7 April 2015 |quote=Self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics which recently held referenda on independence from Ukraine have declared the creation of Novorossiya union. }} 3. ^{{cite news |author= |date=11 July 2014 |title=Separatist leader: 'Ukraine rebels will not surrender' |url=https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28258972 |newspaper=BBC News |location= |access-date=7 April 2015 |quote=Oleg Tsaryov, the self-proclaimed head of the breakaway republic of Novorossiya (New Russia), told the BBC's Steve Rosenberg that he "knew the mood of the insurgents" and that they were "not going to surrender". }} 4. ^{{cite news |last=Oliphant |first=Roland |date=22 October 2014 |title=Novorossia Factor: the national anthem song contest |url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/ukraine/11180325/Novorossia-Factor-the-national-anthem-song-contest.html |newspaper=The Telegraph |location= |access-date=7 April 2015 |quote=Novorossia, the break-away state established by Russian-backed rebels in eastern Ukraine, is in search of a national anthem… Entries are still open for the official anthem, which will be chosen by a vote of the parliament of "Novorossia" – an entity made up of the self-declared Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics… }} 5. ^{{cite news |quote=…Novorossiya, a historical area along the southern coast of Ukraine conquered by the Russian empire, which rebels say they are trying to resurrect as an independent government… |last1=Walker |first1=Shaun |last2=Luhn |first2=Alec |date=30 August 2014 |title=Tension high in Ukrainian border towns menaced by Russian forces |url=https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/30/tension-ukrainian-towns-menaced-russian-forces |newspaper=The Guardian |location= |access-date=7 April 2015 }} 6. ^1 {{cite news|script-title=ru:Состоялся учредительный съезд ОПД 'Партия Новороссия'|url=http://novorossia.su/node/1750|trans-title=Constituent rally of the 'New Russia Party'|language=ru|publisher=novorossia.su|date=22 May 2014|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140525003328/http://novorossia.su/node/1750|archivedate=25 May 2014|df=dmy-all}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.pravda.com.ua/rus/news/2014/05/23/7026209/|title=В Донецке создали партию "Новороссия"|newspaper=Ukrainska Pravda|date=23 May 2014|accessdate=14 February 2015}} 8. ^{{cite journal | last=Babiak | first=Mat | date=22 May 2014 | title=Welcome to New Russia | url=http://ukrainianpolicy.com/welcome-to-new-russia/ | journal=UkrainianPolicy | accessdate=24 May 2014}} 9. ^1 2 3 {{ru icon}} Will the New Russia to make a choice?, Moskovskij Komsomolets (31 October 2014) 10. ^{{cite news|title=Branding Novorossiya|first=Ieva|last=Bērziņa|publisher=National Defence Academy of Latvia|journal=Strategic Review|number=10|date=October 2014|url=http://www.naa.mil.lv/~/media/NAA/AZPC/Publikacijas/SA-10_NOVORUS.ashx|pages=4–5}} 11. ^1 {{cite news|title=Donetsk announces creation of Novorossiya Party|url=http://www.kyivpost.com/content/ukraine/donetsk-announces-creation-of-novorossiya-party-347670.html|newspaper=Kyiv Post|date=13 May 2014}} 12. ^{{cite journal | last = Ingram | first = Alan | title = Alexander Dugin: geopolitics and neo-fascism in post-Soviet Russia | journal = Political Geography | volume = 20 | issue = 8 | pages = 1029–1051 | doi = 10.1016/S0962-6298(01)00043-9 | date = November 2001 | ref = harv }} 13. ^{{cite journal | url=https://www.academia.edu/194083 | title=The Palingenetic Thrust of Russian Neo-Eurasianism: Ideas of Rebirth in Aleksandr Dugin's Worldview | author=Shekhovtsov, Anton | journal=Totalitarian Movements and Political Religions |date=December 2008 | volume=2009 | issue=4 | pages=491–506}} 14. ^{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=qmTuwl8P8ocC&q=Dugin#v=snippet&q=Dugin%20fascist&f=false | title=Russian Fascism: Traditions, Tendencies, Movements | publisher=M.E.
