Nicholas Van Slyck (October 25, 1922 - July 3, 1983[1]) was an American composer of classical music. He founded the New School of Music in 1976. Early lifeHe graduated from Kent School in Kent, Connecticut in 1940 and Harvard University (Class of 1944)[2] where he studied with Walter Piston. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. While attending Harvard in the 1940s, he was also the director of the Harvard Chamber orchestra . He had his music performed by the Boston Civic Symphony.[3] Honors
