HistoryThe hospital was created as a memorial to those who had died in the First World War and was opened in a small building at the corner of Green Lane and Hallowell Road by Margaret Lloyd George in 1920.[1] It moved to a purpose-built facility in Pinner Road in December 1924.[1] An extension was opened by the Countess of Harewood in 1930.[1] It joined the National Health Service as the Northwood, Pinner and District Hospital in 1948.[1] At the end of 1983 it was the site of a workers occupation aiming to keep the hospital open. This was followed by a successful Judicial Review of the decision by Hillingdon District Health Authority to close it [2] The hospital closed in 2008 after the Hillingdon Primary Care Trust stated it had become too costly to maintain. In 2010 the trust announced the hospital would remain empty for another four years while funding was used to improve services in other areas of the London Borough of Hillingdon.[3] In 2011 the trust said the hospital could remain closed for a further ten years.[4] A potential option of selling the hospital by September 2012 was referred to in the minutes of a budget meeting of NHS Hillingdon.[5] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite web|title=Northwood and Pinner Hospital|url=http://ezitis.myzen.co.uk/northwoodpinner.html|publisher=Lost Hospital of London|accessdate=13 April 2014}} 2. ^{{cite web|title=The South London Women’s Hospital Occupation 1984-85|url=http://www.past-tense.org.uk/|publisher=Past tense|accessdate=7 April 2014}} 3. ^{{cite news |title=Northwood and Pinner Cottage Hospital to remain closed for further four years |last1=Matti |first1=Siba |url=http://northwood.uxbridgegazette.co.uk/2010/06/northwood-and-pinner-cottage-h.html |newspaper=Uxbridge Gazette |date=22 June 2010 |accessdate=13 May 2011}} 4. ^{{cite news |title=Hospital set to 'wither' for next decade |last=Matti |first=Siba |url=http://www.uxbridgegazette.co.uk/west-london-news/local-uxbridge-news/2011/05/17/hospital-set-to-wither-for-next-decade-113046-28710262/ |newspaper=Uxbridge Gazette |date=17 May 2011 |accessdate=26 May 2011}} 5. ^{{cite news |title=Plans to sell off Northwood and Pinner Cottage Hospital spark outcry |last=Coombes |first=Jenny |url=http://www.uxbridgegazette.co.uk/west-london-news/local-uxbridge-news/2012/03/14/plans-to-sell-off-northwood-and-pinner-cottage-hospital-spark-outcry-113046-30523029/ |newspaper=Uxbridge Gazette |date=14 March 2012 |accessdate=15 March 2012}} 3 : Hospital buildings completed in 1920|Defunct hospitals in London|Cottage hospitals |
