Our Moon has Blood Clots : The Exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits is a 2013 memoir by Indian author Rahul Pandita about the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the late 1989 and early 1990.[1][2] It was published by Random House.

Reception

Manjula Narayan of Hindustan Times wrote: "The form contributes to much of the power of this book that speaks of the pain of fleeing a beloved home, incorporates moving descriptions of rituals specific to the Shaivite Pandits, and weaves in oral histories and snatches of poetry from, among others, Lal Ded and Agha Shahid Ali".[3] Soutik Biswas of Mint gave a positive review and said, "Pandita writes evocatively about passing trucks filled with scared Pandits escaping to Jammu, the women “herded like cattle”, and a man showing the family his fist and wishing them death." He however felt that journalism was the "weakest link in what is a largely engaging memoir."[4] Amberish K Diwanji of Daily News and Analysis wrote that the book "makes for difficult reading".[5]

Sunanda Vashisht of Swarajya called the book "very valuable for it presents the real truth without the need to balance it with any other narrative." Further writing: "In his well-written, gut wrenching memoir, Pandita demolishes every lie that has been peddled in last two decades."[6] Prayag Akbar of The Sunday Guardian said in his review, "Our Moon Has Blood Clots is an important book because it provides a moving, at times haunting portrait of how the lives of a community, spanning generations, can be shattered by exile."[7] Pradeep Magazine of The Hindu felt that the book was "flawed on many counts". He said that the stories in it are shaped by the author's "own childhood nightmare and coloured by stories of a real and imagined past."[8]
