He began his career with Gimnasia before moving to Racing Club de Avellaneda in his home country. He retired from playing in 2002 due to ankle injuries.{{cn|date=March 2018}} Coaching and managementAsensio moved to England in September 2002 to study for coaching qualifications. He was an observer under his mentor and friend Gus Poyet at Sunderland, Leeds United and Spurs [2] as well as working as a scout for Poyet when the latter was managing Brighton & Hove Albion.[3] Between 2007 and 2009 Asensio joined the management team at Droylesden[4] and coached at Accrington Stanley.[5] In July 2009 he was appointed manager at the Menorcan team Atlètic de Ciutadella who play in the Spanish Segunda División B but left in September 2009, as he did not hold the correct UEFA Pro license. Asensio subsequently received his UEFA Pro Licence 'A' in 2011 and then coached at Southport under manager Liam Watson, where he was credited with being a major influence behind the team's push for the play-offs in 2012.[6] From August 2012 he assisted with coaching at Macclesfield Town under manager Steve King before being officially appointed first team coach on 17 October 2012.[7] He was sacked along with King on 3 April 2013.[8] On 10 February 2014, Asensio was appointed Assistant Manager at Whitehawk under his former manager at Macclesfield Town, Steve King. When King left his post in January 2016, Asensio took over from him as Caretaker Manager,[9] reorganising the squad and playing style to such an extent that after drifting down towards the relegation zone, Whitehawk finished the season in style and reached the play offs. Asensio was named National League South manager of the month for April [10] and was rewarded by being appointed in May 2016 as permanent manager on a two year contract. He then undertook a complete overhaul of the playing staff for the start of the new season.[11][12] After a poor start to the 2016-2017 season, with only one win in eight games, The Hawks replaced Asensio with former Eastleigh manager Richard Hill.[13][14] References1. ^{{cite news|url=http://whitehawkfc.com/player/pablo-asensio/?season=145/|title= Whitehawk Backroom Staff|date=26 July 2016|publisher=Whitehawk F.C.|accessdate=30 July 2016}} {{Whitehawk F.C. managers}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Asensio, Pablo}}2. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.sussexfa.com/news/2016/feb/asensio-philosophical-about-worthing-tie|title=Asensio philosophical about Worthing tie|publisher=Sussex FA|date=22 February 2016|accessdate=30 July 2016}} 3. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/9055796.Chase_will_be_on_for_Accrington_Stanley_midfielder/|title=Chase will be on for Accrington Stanley midfielder|accessdate=30 July 2016}} 4. ^{{citenews|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/droylsden/7422348.stm|title= Bloods boss hails Asensio arrival|date=27 May 2008|accessdate=30 July 2016}} 5. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/9055796.Chase_will_be_on_for_Accrington_Stanley_midfielder/|title=Chase will be on for Accrington Stanley midfielder|accessdate=30 July 2016}} 6. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.southportvisiter.co.uk/news/southport-news/former-southport-coach-pablo-asensio-7065511/|title=Former Southport coach Pablo Asensio has thrown his hat into the ring to be the club's next manager|date=2 May 2014|publisher=Southport Visiter|author=Georgina Stubbs|accessdate=30 July 2016}} 7. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.mtfc.co.uk/news/article/silkmen-appoint-coach-171012-431369.aspx|title=Silkmen appoint coach|date=17 October 2012|publisher=Macclesfield Town|accessdate=30 July 2016}} 8. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.thenonleaguefootballpaper.com/latest-news/conference-premier-step-one/5195/king-dethroned-by-macclesfield-town/|title= King dethroned by Macclesfield Town|date=4 April 2013|publisher=The NonLeague Paper|author=Steve Coney|accessdate=30 July 2016}} 9. ^{{cite web|author=Brian Owen|url=http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/14283136.Hawks_part_company_with_King/?ref=mr&lp=20/ |title=Whitehawk part company with boss Steve King|publisher=The Argus|date=17 February 2016 |accessdate=30 July 2016}} 10. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.southportfc.net/news/details.php?news_id=12220|title=Vanarama Manager and Player Awards for April|date=27 July 2016|publisher=Southport F.C.|accessdate=30 July 2016}}{{dead link|date=March 2018 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} 11. ^{{cite web|url=http://whitehawkfc.com/pablo-asensio-signs-new-contract/|title=Pablo Asensio signs new contract|date=13 May 2016|publisher=Whitehawk F.C.|author=Tom Harris|accessdate=30 July 2016}} 12. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/14571369.Whitehawk_make_six_signings/|title=Whitehawk make six new signings|date=22 May 2016|publisher=The Argus|author=Howard Griggs|accessdate=30 July 2016}} 13. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/14733560.Hill_takes_charge_as_Hawks_sack_Asensio/|title=National League: Richard Hill takes charge as Whitehawk sack Asensio|date=9 September 2016|publisher=The Argus|author=Brian Owen|accessdate=9 September 2016}} 14. ^{{cite web|url= http://whitehawkfc.com/club-statement-managerial-change/|title=Club statement - managerial change|date=9 September 2016|publisher=Whitehawk F.C.|author=Tom Harris|accessdate=9 September 2016}} 9 : 1973 births|Living people|Sportspeople from Buenos Aires|Argentine footballers|Racing Club de Avellaneda footballers|Argentine football managers|National League (English football) managers|Whitehawk F.C. managers|Association football midfielders |
