Newly renamed UFHI will channel philanthropic support for health in the Americas formerly known as PAHO Foundation (the Foundation) exists to respond to existing and emerging health threats in the Americas.^[1] The Foundation was established on September 5, 1968 under the name of Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF) and is based in Atlanta, GA.^[2] Created by the Pan American Health Organization, the regional office of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Americas, the Foundation is a 501(c) (3) philanthropic organization that works with its partners to identify and engage relevant stakeholders to develop programs, mobilize public and private sector resources, share knowledge, and convene and collaborate to improve the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age – building healthier, more secure futures for families, communities, and countries across the Americas.

The Foundation achieves its mission by activating a multi-stakeholder framework through which it convenes and mobilizes resources across sectors to leapfrog on successful outcomes that enable countries to innovate their public health systems and respond by activating strategic investments as relevant for their countries.^[3] Examples of the Foundation's contributions include leveraging knowledge and expertise; catalyzing and integrating innovative thought and dialogue; securing and applying commitments for system change; and sustainable public health advancement. Finally, the Foundation is committed to demonstrating efficacy of our efforts and stewardship of investment through monitoring and evaluation, reporting and dissemination, and ongoing planning.
