He represented the Division of Charlton until its abolition in 2016, and since then has represented the Division of Shortland.[1] He is aligned with the ALP's Socialist Left faction.[2] An economist by profession, before his election to parliament Conroy worked for Greg Combet in his capacity as Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency.[3] Conroy was born a British citizen by descent through his father, who was born in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, England.
