Spickard (born 1950) is an American historian and the author of several books on the subject of race and ethnicity, particularly multiracialism.[1][2] His work was formative in rearticulating and moving beyond a black-white paradigm of race and mixed-race relations in the U.S.[3] According to his personal profile page, Spickard grew up near black people.[4] Spickard earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and his undergraduate degree from Harvard University.[5] He served as the Director of Research at the Institute for Polynesian Studies in Honolulu[2] as well as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at BYU-Hawaii.[5] In 2013, Spickard was named a Distinguished Lecturer by the Organization of American Historians.[6] In 2011, Spickard co-founded the Journal for Critical Mixed Race Studies.[7] He currently teaches as a professor of history at the University of California, Santa Barbara,[1] where he is also an affiliate faculty in Asian American Studies and Religious Studies.[8] Bibliography
AwardsIn 2011, Spickard was awarded The Loving Prize at the Mixed Roots Film & Literary Festival for his groundbreaking research on mixed racial and cultural experiences.[1][9] He has also been named a Fulbright Research Professor and Rockefeller Foundation Residential Fellow.[10] In 2013, he received the Richard A. Yarborough Mentoring Award from the American Studies Association[11] and has received over a dozen teaching awards at UCSB.[1] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite web | title =Paul Spickard | work = UCSB Department of History | publisher =The Regents of the University of California | url =http://www.history.ucsb.edu/people/person.php?account_id=52 | accessdate = November 2, 2013}} {{authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Spickard, Paul}}{{US-historian-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite web | title =Jefferson's Blood | work =PBS Frontine: shows | publisher =WGBH educational foundation | url = https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/jefferson/mixed/spickard.html | accessdate = November 2, 2013}} 3. ^{{cite journal | last =Guevarra | first =Rudy P. | title =Introduction to the Special Issue | journal =Journal of Asian American Studies | volume =14 | issue =3 | pages =323–329 | publisher =Johns Hopkins University Press| date =October 2011 | url =http://muse.jhu.edu/login?auth=0&type=summary&url=/journals/journal_of_asian_american_studies/v014/14.3.guevarra01.html | doi =10.1353/jaas.2011.0036 | accessdate = November 2, 2013}} 4. ^http://www.history.ucsb.edu/faculty/paul-spickard/ 5. ^1 {{cite web | title =Paul R.
