It is located in Llanion, Pembroke Dock in Wales. It is the only dedicated military cemetery in Wales.[1] The cemetery is believed to have opened around 1860, the date on its earliest graves.[2] Forty Commonwealth service personnel who participated in the First World War and 33 from the Second World War are buried here.[3] The most recent burial was in 1955. A Cross of Sacrifice within the cemetery grounds is used as a focal point for commemoration events. The cemetery was forced to close to the public in 2013, when a 20-foot-deep sinkhole opened up around the grave of Private Francis Ryan. The incident was believed to have been caused by water erosion of the limestone beneath Ryan's grave.[4] The cemetery partially reopened in January 2014 with the affected area fenced off, before clay-cement grouting was used to fill in the sinkhole, allowing the cemetery to fully reopen in April 2014.[3] The cemetery is owned by the Ministry of Defence and managed by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation group.[5] References1. ^{{cite news |title=Pembroke Dock cemetery for soldiers who died at home |url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-29959963 |first=Sarah |last=Moore |date=2014-11-08 |work=BBC News Online |publisher=British Broadcasting Corporation}} 2. ^{{cite news |url=http://www.walesonline.co.uk/lifestyle/nostalgia/graves-reveal-pembroke-docks-200-year-old-8131967 |date=2014-11-18 |work=WalesOnline |publisher=Media Wales Ltd. |title=Graves reveal Pembroke Dock's 200-year-old military history thanks to historian's research |last=Misstear |first=Rachael}} 3. ^1 {{cite news |url=http://m.westerntelegraph.co.uk/news/11155669.Military_Cemetery_is_fully_restored_to_former_glory/ |publisher=Newsquest |work=Western Telegraph |date=2014-04-17 |title=Military Cemetery is fully restored to former glory}} 4. ^{{cite news |url=http://news.sky.com/story/1219112/saving-private-ryan-sinkhole-swallows-grave |date=2014-02-28 |title=Saving Private Ryan: Sinkhole Swallows Grave |work=Sky News |publisher=BSkyB |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20140304061707/http://news.sky.com:80/story/1219112/saving-private-ryan-sinkhole-swallows-grave |archivedate=2014-03-04 |deadurl=yes}} 5. ^{{cite news |url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-west-wales-25842212 |title=Collapsed WW1 graves at Llanion cemetery may be exhumed |date=2014-01-22 |work=BBC News Online |publisher=British Broadcasting Corporation}} External sourcesPembroke Dock Military Cemetery page on Commonwealth War Graves Commission website 4 : British military memorials and cemeteries|Cemeteries in Wales|Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemeteries in Wales|Pembroke Dock |
