The obovate to spathulate leaves are 6–15 mm long and 2–4 mm wide. Their upper surface is flat to concave.[1] Leaves grow upright, with those arising from the underside of horizontal branches bending to grow upwards.[2] The yellow flowers appear in February and March.[2][1] The shiny dark red-purple fruit are oval, measuring 0.8 cm wide by 1 cm long.[2]TaxonomyAustralian botanist Tony Orchard described P. moscalii in 1983, naming it for Tony Moscal, who collected the type specimen on 16 March 1980 and spent many days mapping out its distribution and habits.[2] The genus was reviewed by Peter Weston for the Flora of Australia treatment in 1995, and the three endemic Tasmanian species P. muelleri, P. gunnii and P. moscalii are classified in the gunnii group.[3] Distribution and habitatThe shrub is found only in the Melaleuca, Bathurst and Frankland Ranges in south-western Tasmania.[1] It grows on south-facing slopes exposed to the elements on alpine heathland,[2] on quartzite soils, from altitudes of 640 to 760 m.[1] Conservation statusPersoonia moscalii is classified as rare under the Tasmanian Threatened Species Protection Act 1995, though is not listed federally under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.[4] EcologyBees are thought to be the main pollinators of P. moscalii.[5] References1. ^1 2 3 4 {{Flora of Australia Online | name = Persoonia moscalii Orchard | id = 44591}} {{Persoonia nav}}{{Taxonbar|from=Q7170723}}2. ^1 2 3 4 5 {{cite journal|title=The Tasmanian species of Persoonia Smith (Proteaceae) | author = Orchard, Anthony E. | journal= Brunonia | volume=6 |issue=2 | pages=217–40| year=1983 | doi=10.1071/BRU9830217 }} 3. ^{{cite book|author=Weston, Peter H.|year=1995|chapter=Persoonioideae|editor=McCarthy, Patrick (ed.)|title=Flora of Australia: Volume 16: Eleagnaceae, Proteaceae 1|pages=47–125|publisher=CSIRO Publishing / Australian Biological Resources Study|location=Collingwood, Victoria|isbn=0-643-05693-9}} 4. ^{{cite web | author=Threatened Species Section |year=2016 |title= Persoonia moscalii (creeping geebung): Species Management Profile for Tasmania's Threatened Species Link |url= http://www.threatenedspecieslink.tas.gov.au/persoonia-moscalii |publisher= Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment |location= Hobart, Tasmania |accessdate =20 January 2016}} 5. ^{{cite web | author=Threatened Species Section |date=January 2010 |title= Persoonia moscalii (creeping geebung): Notesheet |url= http://dpipwe.tas.gov.au/Documents/Persoonia-moscalii-notesheet.pdf |publisher= Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment |location= Hobart, Tasmania |accessdate =20 January 2016}} 3 : Flora of Tasmania|Persoonia|Plants described in 1984 |
