He posted a FINA B-standard entry time of 56.87 from the Swiss National Championships in Zurich.[3][4] On the second day of the Games, Gilgen placed thirty-fifth the 100 m backstroke. Swimming in heat three, he edged out Sweden's Mattias Ohlin to wrest a third seed by a hundredth of a second (0.01) in 57.50.[5][6][7] Gilgen also teamed up with Remo Lütolf, Karel Novy, and Philippe Meyer in the 4×100 m medley relay. Leading off a backstroke leg in heat one, Gilgen recorded a split of 57.31, but the Swiss team settled only for sixth place and sixteenth overall with a final time of 3:42.78.[8] References1. ^{{cite sports-reference|Philipp Gilgen|https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/gi/philipp-gilgen-1.html|27 May 2013}} 2. ^{{cite news|last=Gmünder|first=Felix|title=Philipp Gilgen beendet karriere|trans-title=Philipp Gilgen ends his career|language=German|url=http://www.fsn.ch/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-237/232_read-481/|publisher=Swiss Swimming Federation|date=17 September 2004|accessdate=2 June 2013}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Swimming – Men's 100m Backstroke Startlist (Heat 3)|url=http://www.omegatiming.com/File/Download?id=000100060006000000FFFFFFFFFFFF00|format=PDF|work=Sydney 2000|publisher=Omega Timing|accessdate=23 April 2013}} 4. ^{{cite news|title=Fazit der Hallenmeisterschaften|trans-title=Conclusion of the National Championships|language=German|url=http://www.svl.ch/news_1-00.html|publisher=Limmat Sharks Zurich|date=13 March 2000|accessdate=25 May 2013}} 5. ^{{cite web|title=Sydney 2000: Swimming – Men's 100m Backstroke Heat 3 |url=http://www.la84foundation.org/6oic/OfficialReports/2000/Masters/sw/SWresults.pdf |format=PDF |work=Sydney 2000 |publisher=LA84 Foundation |page=274 |accessdate=23 April 2013 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110819181023/http://la84foundation.org/6oic/OfficialReports/2000/Masters/sw/SWresults.pdf |archivedate=19 August 2011 |df= }} 6. ^{{cite news|title=Dolan breaks own world mark in 400 IM|url=http://www.canoe.ca/2000GamesSwimming/sep17_dol.html|publisher=Canoe.ca|date=17 September 2000|accessdate=28 May 2013}} 7. ^{{cite news|title=Olympics: Lütolf eighth in breaststroke final|url=http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/index/Olympics:_Luetolf_eighth_in_breaststroke_final.html?cid=1662346|publisher=Swissinfo|date=17 September 2000|accessdate=2 June 2013}} 8. ^{{cite web|title=Sydney 2000: Swimming – Men's 4×100m Medley Relay Heat 1 |url=http://www.la84foundation.org/6oic/OfficialReports/2000/Masters/sw/SWresults.pdf |format=PDF |work=Sydney 2000 |publisher=LA84 Foundation |page=346 |accessdate=23 April 2013 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110819181023/http://la84foundation.org/6oic/OfficialReports/2000/Masters/sw/SWresults.pdf |archivedate=19 August 2011 |df= }} External links
