It is a local landmark[1][2][3] originally consisting of three pizzerias: King of Donair, Sicilian Pizza and the European Food Shop. Completing the four corners is The Presbyterian Church of Saint David, a provincially recognized heritage building.[4] All three pizzerias are known for their Halifax-style donairs, and the corner is a popular destination for hungry patrons of the local bars and pubs.[2][3][5] HistoryIn 1995, when the G7 Summit was held in Halifax several world leaders made a point of visiting the location and buying donairs.[6] In 2012 King of Donair left their longtime location over a dispute with the building owner, leaving the iconic corner with only two pizzerias.[7] The space was filled for a few years by a frozen yogurt chain, but in 2017 Pizza Girls opened in the former KOD location[8]. The European Food Shop closed in 2015 after operating there since 1987,[9] but the space was not left empty for long as Johnny K's Authentic Donair opened up just a few months later.[10] {{clr}}References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://thechronicleherald.ca/business/53404-pizza-corner-lose-icon |title=Pizza Corner to lose an icon |author=Cosgrove, Colleen |date=January 18, 2012 |publisher=The Chronicle Herald |accessdate=25 June 2012}} {{HalifaxNS-geo-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://www.openfile.ca/halifax/halifax/text/slice-history-pizza-corners-untold-stories |title=Slice of history: Pizza Corner's untold stories |author=Boon, Jacob |date=October 17, 2011 |publisher=openfile |accessdate=25 June 2012 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20150402092413/http://www.openfile.ca/halifax/halifax/text/slice-history-pizza-corners-untold-stories |archivedate=April 2, 2015 }} 3. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://thewaffle.blog.com/2009/08/14/pizza-corner/ |title=Halifax's Pizza Corner |author=The Waffle |date=August 14, 2009 |publisher=Blog |accessdate=25 June 2012 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://archive.is/20121129181638/http://thewaffle.blog.com/2009/08/14/pizza-corner/ |archivedate=29 November 2012 |df= }} 4. ^Grafton Street Methodist Church, Historic Places.ca 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/macleans/halifax-on-eve-of-g7-summit |title=Halifax on Eve of G-7 Summit |author=DeMont, John |date=June 19, 1995 |publisher=Maclean's (via The Canadian Encyclopedia) |accessdate=25 June 2012}} 6. ^{{cite news|last1=Buote|first1=Melissa|title=The life and times of Pizza Corner|url=http://www.thecoast.ca/halifax/the-life-and-times-of-pizza-corner/Content?oid=4270357|work=The Coast|date=20 February 2014}} 7. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2012/01/19/ns-king-of-donair-pizza-corner-moving.html |title=King of Donairs to leave Halifax's pizza corner |author=CBC News |date=January 19, 2012 |publisher=CBC News - Nova Scotia |accessdate=25 June 2012}} 8. ^https://www.capebretonpost.com/business/new-pizza-place-opening-up-on-famous-halifax-intersection-2626/ 9. ^{{cite news|title=Pizza Corner in Halifax loses European Food Shop pizza joint|url=http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/pizza-corner-in-halifax-loses-european-food-shop-pizza-joint-1.3040852|work=CBC News|date=20 April 2015}} 10. ^https://www.thecoast.ca/RestaurantandBarNews/archives/2015/06/24/heeeeres-johnny 2 : Pizza chains of Canada|Restaurant districts and streets in Canada |
