}}Pouteria myrsinoides subsp. reticulata, commonly known as axe-handle wood, is a flowering plant in the sapodilla family, Sapotaceae. The subspecific epithet refers to the reticulate venation (network-like pattern of the veins) on the leaves.[1] DescriptionIt is a small tree growing to 6 m, occasionally 10 m, in height, with a watery, white latex. The alternate, oval leaves are usually 40–80 mm long and 20–40 mm wide. The inconspicuous green flowers, 8 mm long, appear from May to July. The pointed, egg-shaped fruits are 13 mm long.[1][4] Distribution and habitatThe subspecies is found on Australia's subtropical Lord Howe Island and the French territory of New Caledonia in the south-west Pacific Ocean. It is common at low elevations.[1][2] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite web |url= http://www.anbg.gov.au/abrs/online-resources/flora/stddisplay.xsql?pnid=52568 |title= Pouteria myrsinoides subsp. reticulata|accessdate=2014-02-27|work=Flora of Australia Online: Data derived from Flora of Australia Volume 49 (1994) |publisher= Australian Biological Resources Study (ABRS) |date= }} {{Taxonbar|from=Q15917542}}{{Sapotaceae-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite book |title=The Australian Geographic Book of Lord Howe Island |author=Hutton, Ian |year=1998 |series= |publisher=Australian Geographic |location=Sydney |isbn=978-1-876276-27-0 |page=145|url= }} 6 : Pouteria|Ericales of Australia|Flora of Lord Howe Island|Flora of New Caledonia|Plants described in 1890|Plant subspecies |
