Planned as a prequel to their previous game, the multiplayer-focused Primal Carnage, it was intended to be released episodically on PlayStation 4. Genesis was to use the same setting as the first game, a remote island where dinosaurs have been brought back from extinction by genetic engineering. Players would assume the role of a survivor amongst the chaos after the animals escape, fighting in and exploring a mix of tropical and man-made environments, teeming with dangerous prehistoric life. Genesis remains indefinitely postponed after the departure of the original development team, and subsequent release of the smaller in scope Extinction multiplayer game by new developers Circle 5 Studios. DevelopmentIn March 2013, Primal Carnage: Genesis was announced[1] for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4, with the game set to be released first on PS4 as a timed exclusive. Genesis is being built using Unreal Engine 4. It is intended to serve as a prequel to the first game, exploring the origin of the dinosaurs' resurrection and their subsequent escape. As of August 2014, Lukewarm Media have stated that development of the game has been suspended, while the team focus on fixing and enhancing the original Primal Carnage.[2] Lukewarm Media ultimately disbanded due to management disagreements and creative differences[3] during this process, and the rights to future Primal Carnage games were later transferred to Circle 5 Studios. On October 27, 2014, Primal Carnage: Extinction was announced as a sequel / reboot based around the original Primal Carnage multiplayer concept,[4] with Genesis remaining on indefinite hold. EnemiesGenesis would have the player combat many different types of dinosaurs, and a plethora of other prehistoric reptiles, such as Pterosaurs. Most, if not all, of the dinosaurs seen in the original Primal Carnage are expected to return. A number of models were created for the first game that ended up going unused. This included the Compsognathus, which was seen in the second Primal Carnage: Genesis reveal trailer, prompting speculation that other creatures which were previously shelved may find their way into the new game. There will also be dinosaurs that are not openly hostile towards the player, such as the herbivorous Brachiosaurus seen in the second reveal trailer. The dinosaurs chosen to be included may possibly be dictated by fan feedback. See also
