|name = |image = Orchid_primrose.jpg |genus = Primula |species = vialii |authority = Delavay ex Franch.[1] }} Primula vialii,[2] Vial’s primrose, is a species of flowering plant in the family Primulaceae, originating from wet meadows, or near water in high valleys of SW Sichuan and northern Yunnan[3] in southern China. Growing to {{convert|40|cm|in|abbr=on}}, it is a herbaceous perennial with erect stalks of flowers growing from basal rosettes of leaves. The flowers initially appear as narrow green spikes turning red, then opening pink from the base upwards, thus giving a striking bicoloured appearance. The Latin specific epithet honours Paul Vial (1855-1917).[4] This plant is cultivated as a garden ornamental, and has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.[5][6] CultivarsP. vialii "Alison Holland": A NEW COMPLETELY WHITE VERSION, found by luck or accident in the wild upland garden of John Holland near Whitley Chapel...west of Hexham in the Pennines...a cold windy lonely place where in 2010 one plant arose amongst a number of the normal pink version in amongst a mass of other meadow flowers and primulas, and was luckily spotted by John Holland (85 yrs old and an enthusiastic gardener) and micro propagated through 2011 - 2015, where it was then shown at the Chelsea Flower Show 2015, and made it to the shortlist.
