The leaves are {{convert|10-30|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|1.5-6|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide.[1] In spring deep mauve to violet, sometimes pink flowers appear in upper leaf axils.[1] Mid-green leaves are narrowly egg-shaped to narrowly elliptic, {{convert|10–30|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long, {{convert|1.5-6|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide.
