The leaves are 10 to 30 mm long and 5 to 15 mm wide.[1] Flowers appear in the leaf axils from December to February (summer) in the species native range. They are about 15 to 26 mm long and blue-green or yellow-green with purple veining.[1] The species was formally described in 1870 by Victorian Government Botanist Ferdinand von Mueller in the seventh volume of Fragmenta Phytographiae Australiae, based on plant material collected by Carl Walter at Mount Ellery in East Gippsland.[2][3] It occurs on granitic soils in forests in south-eastern New South Wales and East Gippsland in Victoria.[4][1] The name has sometimes been misapplied to Prostanthera monticola.[2] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite web |url=http://plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/NSWfl.pl?page=nswfl&lvl=sp&name=Prostanthera~walteri |title=Prostanthera walteri |accessdate=4 January 2013 |author=|work= PlantNET - New South Wales Flora Online |publisher=Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust, Sydney Australia}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q7250972}}{{Lamiaceae-stub}}{{Australia-asterid-stub}}2. ^1 2 {{cite web |url=http://www.anbg.gov.au/cgi-bin/apni?TAXON_NAME=Prostanthera+walteri|title= Prostanthera walteri |accessdate=4 January 2013 |work= Australian Plant Name Index (APNI), IBIS database|publisher = Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research, Australian Government, Canberra}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Walter, Carl (1831 - 1907)|work=Biographical Notes|publisher=Australian National Herbarium|url=https://www.anbg.gov.au/biography/walter-carl.html|accessdate=29 December 2013}} 4. ^1 {{cite book |title=Wild Plants of Victoria (database)|year=2009 |publisher=Viridans Biological Databases & Department of Sustainability and Environment}} 4 : Prostanthera|Flora of New South Wales|Flora of Victoria (Australia)|Lamiales of Australia |
