Puthur (also spelt as Pootoor in early records[1]) is a part of the city of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. The Bishop Heber College and the headquarters of the Tiruchi Co-Operative Bank are located here. Famous goddess kulumaye amman goat blood sacrifice festival is celebrated in this village. This festival was conducted by committee of three Iyers and one Muthuraja community person .This temple was situated at the river bank of kulumi river. This goddess is very powerful and temple of this goddess is opened even at the time of eclipse. Thus there is a belief that this goddess is superior to eclipse and have power to solve the astrological problems of a person. Kulumayae amman is natively from Kerala, travelled by river and landed on the bank of kulumi river. Agricultural peoples of Muthuraja community dig well for agricultural benfit there the blood of the goddess came and then the people worshiped the goddess. Thus in every kulumayae thiruvila celebrated at march ( maasi - a Tamil month) ancestry of kulumaye amman a muthuraja family have rights to pooja first ( locally called as karumbu saaru poojai) . A sorcerer arrested the power of goddess and harshed the goddess. The crying sound of kulumaye amman called out Rettamalai Ondi karuppu ( a protecting god), to the goddess ondi karuppu demands for sacrifice and killed the sorcerer. So there is a belief that kulumaye amman came into the kappukatti of Muthuraja family person, then goat sacrifice was done by old bronze knife protected by kulumaye amman ancestry of muthuraja family and the blood of the goat was drunken by the Marulali of Vellalar community in silver bowl. This is the historical outline of kulumaye amman or kulumai amman. An amazing thing even Iyers worship this goddess. This goddess and temple was common to both puthur and solanganallur ( small village on the banks of kulumi river), this festival was also celebrated in solanganallur and procedures was taken out by same community peoples.
