It is known from two incomplete, semi-articulated and three-dimensionally preserved skeletons, which were found in the Xiagou Formation of the Changma Basin. It was first named by Ji Shu-An, Jessie Atterholt, Jingmai O'Connor, Matthew Lamanna, Jerry Harrs, Li Da-Qing, You Hai-Lu and Peter Dodson in 2011 and the type species is Qiliania graffini.[1] The species was named for Greg Graffin, a paleontologist and member of the punk rock group Bad Religion, at the suggestion of coauthor Jingmai O'Connor, a longtime fan of the band.[2] References1. ^1 {{cite journal |last=Ji |first=Shu-An |last2= Atterholt |first2 = Jessie |last3 = O'Connor | first3= Jingmai | last4 = Lamanna |first4 = Matthew | last5 = Harris | first5 = Jerry |first6 = Da-Qing |last6 = Li |first7 = Hai-Lu | last7 = You | last8= Dodson |first8 = Peter |year=2011 |title=A new, three-dimensionally preserved enantiornithine bird (Aves: Ornithothoraces) from Gansu Province, north-western China |url= |journal=Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society |volume=162 |issue=1 |pages=201–219 |doi=10.1111/j.1096-3642.2010.00671.x }} {{Portal|Paleontology}}{{Enantiornithes|state=expanded}}{{Taxonbar|from=Q5290510}}{{paleo-bird-stub}}2. ^{{cite web | last = O'Connor | first = J.K. | date = 6 January 2011 | url = http://archosaurmusings.wordpress.com/2011/06/01/guest-post-bad-religion-good-paleontology/ | title = Bad Religion, Good Paleontology| publisher = Dave Hone's Archosaur Musings weblog | accessdate = 7 June 2011}} 3 : Early Cretaceous birds of Asia|Enantiornithes|Fossil taxa described in 2011 |
