The church is of stone with towers and narrower sacristy. It was built in 1845-47. The present church is believed to have been preceded by at least three prior church buildings, the first of which was probably built in the late 1000s. Construction was under the direction of Jacob Norin (1795-1864) from Norrala in Hälsingland. The church includes an altar from 1623 and a pulpit from 1649. The church bell was cast at Stockholm in 1683. [2] ClimateSveg has a relatively mild subarctic climate.[3] It has certain continental features, being prone to heat and cold extremes with an all-time record of {{convert|36|C|F}} and a cold extreme of {{convert|-43|C|F}}, although the latter was set in the 19th century.[4] A more recent reading was {{convert|-42.6|C|F}} in January 1987 during a chilling cold wave that struck Northern Europe. In spite of it being in the middle of the Scandinavian landmass on such a high parallel, the winters are somewhat milder than expected, due to the mild North Atlantic air that often rises temperatures. Summer days are often warm, many times averaging around {{convert|20|C|F}}, but nights are regularly cool, and frost can be recorded even in the midst of summer. In terms of Scandinavian climate, Sveg is an anomaly in that December is somewhat colder than February. {{Weather box|location = Sveg 2002-2015; precipitation 1961-1990; extremes since 1901 |metric first = Yes |single line = Yes |Jan record high C = 10.0 |Feb record high C = 10.0 |Mar record high C = 16.0 |Apr record high C = 22.5 |May record high C = 27.6 |Jun record high C = 35.0 |Jul record high C = 36.0 |Aug record high C = 33.0 |Sep record high C = 27.4 |Oct record high C = 21.9 |Nov record high C = 13.7 |Dec record high C = 9.9 |year record high C = 36.0 |Jan high C = -3.8 |Feb high C = -2.4 |Mar high C = 2.3 |Apr high C = 8.5 |May high C = 13.7 |Jun high C = 17.9 |Jul high C = 21.0 |Aug high C = 18.9 |Sep high C = 13.7 |Oct high C = 6.2 |Nov high C = 0.8 |Dec high C = -2.5 |year high C = 7.8 |Jan mean C = -7.5 |Feb mean C = -6.0 |Mar mean C = -2.3 |Apr mean C = 3.3 |May mean C = 8.2 |Jun mean C = 12.3 |Jul mean C = 15.4 |Aug mean C = 13.6 |Sep mean C = 9.1 |Oct mean C = 2.7 |Nov mean C = -2.2 |Dec mean C = -6.4 |year mean C = 3.3 |Jan low C = -11.1 |Feb low C = -9.6 |Mar low C = -7.0 |Apr low C = -1.8 |May low C = 2.7 |Jun low C = 6.7 |Jul low C = 9.8 |Aug low C = 8.3 |Sep low C = 4.5 |Oct low C = -0.7 |Nov low C = -5.2 |Dec low C = -10.2 |year low C = -1.1 |Jan record low C = -42.6 |Feb record low C = -39.8 |Mar record low C = -38.0 |Apr record low C = -27.0 |May record low C = -12.5 |Jun record low C = -8.0 |Jul record low C = -3.0 |Aug record low C = -5.7 |Sep record low C = -10.5 |Oct record low C = -25.9 |Nov record low C = -33.0 |Dec record low C = -41.0 |year record low C = -42.6 |Jan precipitation mm = 37.1 |Feb precipitation mm = 29.3 |Mar precipitation mm = 31.3 |Apr precipitation mm = 37.6 |May precipitation mm = 46.2 |Jun precipitation mm = 64.3 |Jul precipitation mm = 87.8 |Aug precipitation mm = 69.2 |Sep precipitation mm = 65.2 |Oct precipitation mm = 45.1 |Nov precipitation mm = 46.1 |Dec precipitation mm = 43.6 |year precipitation mm = 602.5 |source 1 = SMHI precipitation average 1961-1990[5] |source 2 = SMHI climate data 2002-2015[6] |date=July 2016}} SportsThe following sports clubs are located in Sveg:
