HistoryThe 2400 class were an evolution of the 1550 class. They differed in having the modular control system incorporated into the electrical cabinet. Originally it was intended to continue their number sequence from the last 1550, i.e. the first would have been 1577, but this would have required the 1600 class to have been renumbered, so they were instead numbered as the 2400 class.[1][2][3] Between 1999 and 2002, eighteen were rebuilt as 2300 class locomotives at Redbank Railway Workshops.[4][5] The remaining six were withdrawn[6] with one exported in August 2013 to South Africa.[7] References1. ^{{cite book|last=Oberg|first=Leon|title=Locomotives of Australia 1850s-1980s|year=1984|publisher=Reed Books|location=Frenchs Forest|isbn=0 730100 05 7|page=283}} {{QueenslandLocos|state=collapsed}}2. ^[https://sites.google.com/site/queenslandgreattrains/Home/diesel-locomotives/1550-2400-2300-class 1550, 2400, 2300, 2500 Class] Queensland's Great Trains 3. ^Clyde/GM 2400 Class Queensland's Railway Interest Group 4. ^Clyde/GM 2300 Class Queensland's Railway Interest Group 5. ^2300 Class Railpage 6. ^2400 Class (QR) Railpage 7. ^2412D - 2400 Class (QR) {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140410101120/http://www.railpage.com.au/locos/2400-class-qr/2412d |date=April 10, 2014 }} Railpage 7 : Clyde Engineering locomotives|Co-Co locomotives|Diesel locomotives of Queensland|Queensland Rail locomotives|Railway locomotives introduced in 1977|3 ft 6 in gauge locomotives of Australia|Diesel-electric locomotives of Australia |
