The Quinebaug Highlands are a 172,000 acre region[1] of mountains surrounding the Connecticut/Massachusetts border near Ashford, Eastford, Union and Woodstock in Connecticut and Southbridge and Sturbridge in Massachusetts.[2] It includes over {{convert|40000|acre|km2}} acres of protected forest.[3] The highlands are the source for several rivers, including the Quinebaug River[4][5] and is part of the Quinebaug and Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor.[6]

The highest elevation is {{convert|1315|ft|m|abbr=on}} Burley Hill in Union, CT.[7]

Recreational Opportunities

The highlands many protected area offer opportunities for hiking, canoeing, kayaking, hunting and fishing.[8] It is one of the few areas in Connecticut that offers back country camping.[9]
